Talk Homework

Talk Homework

Tomorrow in Big Write we will be working on our persuasive writing. We have already talked about ideas for making our writing more persuasive and have had some great discussions in class. Today’s homework is to discuss the argument you would like to make in your Big Write. Below are a couple ideas you can use if you’re a little stuck.
All children over 5 should help with household tasks.
Every day we should do at least 5 minutes of exercise in school.

Here is a persuasion map to use if you would like.

PE and Literacy Update

In PE in this term, we have been looking at improving the accuracy of our catching and throwing techniques. Last Thursday, we experimented with different types of ball using both underarm and overarm techniques.

At the end of the lesson we played a game of girls vs boys. The girls won! Better luck next time boys.

In literacy, we have been looking at forming arguments for persuasive writing. We looked at the points for and against a range of statements and had some excellent class debates.

We have also finished our 'Woman in the Woods' storybooks! We have been reading them during our Guided Reading sessions in the mornings and they look absolutely fantastic.

Our First Week in Year 5

Our theme this term is Water, Rivers & Oceans

So far we have talked about the states of water, watched and discussed a video about how rivers affect people and looked at how compasses are used to describe positions of ships at sea. Tomorrow we will be setting up an experiment to look at the relationship between evaporation and sunlight!

Our current literacy challenge is to make a storybook based on The Woman of the Woods

We have described our characters, planned our stories and written our drafts in Big Write - now we are ready to start making our story books! Take a look at some of our front covers below.

In maths, we have been working on our Four Core Calculations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

We are currently learning how to use the grid method for multiplication - look at the video below to learn more about how to use this method...

Well done for a fantastic first week Year 5!
